Frugal Column November 27, 2011

If you haven’t heard of University of Kentucky’s College of Agriculture Extension Office you don’t know what valuable information you have been missing. What is Cooperative Extension? Kentucky’s two land-grant universities, the University of Kentucky and Kentucky State University, serve as partners in conducting educational programs through Cooperative Extension. Its vision is to provide education and resources to build better communities and improve quality of life. Through continuing educational classes, informative staff members and lots of instructive materials you can have many of your questions answered from canning, energy efficiency, debt reduction to believe it or not a question asked to Diana Doggett the Family and Consumer Agent “Can I still cook my turkey if I left it in the car overnight?”. The Extension Office is even getting on board to help Kentuckians become less sedative by offering in many counties the program Second Sunday where everyone can come together to do some type of physical activity. It was a tremendous success with more programs coming in the future. Check out their website for all the upcoming events for your county. I personally just joined to become an Extension Homemaker. In do so for just $8 a year I get access to many valuable and fun programs. They offer programs on canning, cooking, quilting, holiday greenery along with a new Coupon Club. As a homemaker you will have the opportunity on the first Monday of each month to join other club members like me to discuss budgeting, fiscal savings, latest news in coupon usage along with much more. This is a great way to get fellow Kentuckians together that want a better quality of life by listening to others personal journeys along with informative discussions. Call the extension office to register or to become a homemaker (859)257-5582.
