Frugal Forum April 16, 2012

Another year has come and gone so I hope everyone was ready to prepare their 2011 taxes. Let’s learn from any problems we encountered this year. One of the best things you can do is to be organized. You can’t go back a year but start a list now using the information you have from your 2011 to be ready to file your 2012. Start by taking an envelope and mark it “Tax Documents” to keep all of the records you will use when filing your 1040. Make a list of all the accounts you have on your 2011 to get the figures you will need for your 2012 taxes. Start a folder that will hold all your receipts you will need to file your taxes, including charitable donations of cash or goods, unreimbursed business expenses, education expenses, child-care costs, documented moving or job search expenses, medical expenses, medical insurance premiums, etc. Don’t wait till the last minute to bring your documents to your tax preparer to file your taxes, you should be well prepared for 2012. To make tax day a little less stressful many area businesses are giving you some freebies. Reward yourself with a treat.
